CA sitting put off till Tuesday

Kathmandu, Nepal – Today’s meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) has also been put off by pasting a notice. The notice stated that the meeting was put off on the advice of the CA Business Advisory Committee. The next meeting of the CA is scheduled for May 1 at 1pm.

Earlier this, the CA meetings scheduled for April 23 and 26 were also put off. The CA meetings have been postponed after the political parties failed to forge consensus on the disputed issues.



Earlier the meeting of the Dispute Resolution Sub-committee under the Constitutional Committee (CC), sub-committee member and leader of CPN (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal reported about progress made so far regarding the state restructuring and form of governance among the major political parties.


Former Prime Minister Nepal said the political parties have intensified talks to settle the disputed issues regarding forms of governance and state-restructuring. He added that the serious and decisive talks were held among the parties to settle the issues.
He suggested that next meeting of the CC should be held based on the decisions and progress made in meetings of three major political parties and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).


After the meeting UML leader Nepal said to the journalists that the members of the CC expressed their concerns for the delay on consensus in the contentious issues of constitution at a time when the CA deadline was looming nearer.


President of the CC, Nilamber Acharya said sub-committee member Nepal informed the CC members about the ongoing discussion among the three political parties and the UDMF at a time when the CC was expecting progress report from the Dispute Resolution Sub-committee.


Acharya said next meeting of the sub-committee would be called when the ongoing talks among the major political parties forge consensus. RSS
