Coalition partners prioritize constitution writing

Kathmandu, Nepal – A meeting of the two ruling parties, the Unified CPN (Maoist) and the Madhesi Front, today, decided to accord priority to the constitution writing instead of formation of a consensus government.

Emerging out of the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar, UCPN (Maoist) Secretary and Minister for Energy, Posta Bahadur Bogati, said the meeting decided to focus on the constitution writing.

“We are committed to the seven-point agreement on the formation of the government of national consenus; but our conclusion is that a new government to be formed undermining the constitution writing will not be able to take the constitution writing to a conclusion,” he said.

Co-President of the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Hridayesh Tripathi said that the meeting agreed to rip apart any possible machinations aimed at blunting the constitution writing under any pretext.

Tripathi, who is also the Minister for Physical Planning and Works, said: “It is not only ours, the entire nation’s stress is on taking the constitution writing to its logical conclusion and to deviate from this is clearly a conspiracy to prevent the task of constitution writing within May 27.” – RSS
