Brahmans, Kshetris close down Nuwakot

NUWAKOT – The United Kshetri Brahman Society, Nuwakot has enforced a banda or general strike here today, affecting the normal life in the district.


The Society called for the general strike demanding that no community should be discriminated against on ethnic grounds in the new constitution, that the state restructuring should be carried out on the basis of geography and class and not on ethnic lines and that the indigenous Brahmans, Kshetris and Dasnamis, among others, who have settled in the country for generations, should be declared the indigenous nationalities.

Transport services on the Pasang Lhamu highway is closed due to the banda. The general strike has also affected life in the adjoining district Rasuwa. Factories, the market and educational institutions are shut as a result.

The local administration has mobilized a large number of security personnel in the district headquarters to prevent any untoward incident in course of the banda.
Cadres and activists of the organizations calling for the banda have been enforcing the shutdown. RSS
